"Easily" depends on what games you're playing at what settings.

For example, the ONLY way to get Metro2033 playable at max settings at 3x1920x1080 is with 3 SLI'd 580s. Emphasis "playable", not good but playable.

My single 6850 I bought for $179 puts out 4080x1024 at good framerates in FONV and DAO with AA turned down.

I have no idea what they are going to cost, but you could consider 3 560s which come out at Janurary 20th.

Hey try AMD. I use Eyefinity and normal triple monitor setup. I can not go back to dual or single monitors now. I just upgraded to 2x6970s. And I have pair of XFX 5770s (for sale)...if you want em...pm I will discuss the price. The 5000 series or 6000 series both support triple monitors.

This part is very important - I don't think anybody mentioned it. One monitor has to run in displayport mode. Either your monitor has displayport - then you are fine, or you will have to get a adapter which is around 20-30bucks (amd certified) for Eyefinity/triple monitor support . One card can drive all three monitors with ease

AMD will be cheaper....as you only need 1 card

As much as i would like to, I cannot afford dual high-end cards. My budget is under $400, which is why I can apply that to a single higher end card, or dual lower end cards. The challenge is weighing which option would be reap better performance...

I'm starting to think dual GTX 460s/470s might be the best bet. But the choices are daunting:

I have the triple monitors setup with 2 470 gtx cards. its is nice worth it
but the problem with the nvidia cards is that you have to have 3 identical monitors or it wont work.
my best friend has the 5870 2gb cards and did 3 monitors setup
he told me you can use 3 different monitors but it has to run on the same resolution.
if you have $400 to spend I would go with a 5870 2gb card and you should be good to go

dual gtx 460 sounds fine, but you are out of 1920x1080 so i dont think the ram is good enough on the card

just grab a 5970 lol
5970 only has 1 GB per GPU if he gets the normal version.
for 3 screens, ideally you want a lot of VRAM. so i would get the HD 6970 or the HD 6950 as those cards got 2 GB ram. also take note that eyefinity on ATI AMD do not work well with crossfireX. so if you plan to go AMD route don't count on doing multi GPU.

HD 6950 is $300
HD 6970 is $370
GTX 470 is $190 each after MIR for $380 SLI
GTX 460 2 GB is $220 each for $440 SLI

as you can see from the above prices, your best buy (lol) would be the GTX 470 SLI. that is the cheapest and highest performing option for the money.

keep in mind that you will have to reduce texture option in games to cope with the high VRAM demands.

PS prices are taken off of newegg cheapest cards.
again, i see people recommending 5870 2 GB for $400. wouldn't the 6970 2 GB for $370 be the better buy for single card configuration?

Textures aren't what eats VRAM, the biggest VRAM eater is anti-aliasing. With only a 1680x1050 monitor you can run out of VRAM with a 1GB card.

to the OP
yeah man you can go 6850 i hear they are beast BUT honostly im still scorn from the ati drivers.. id just go dual 460s and get surround. you can get 460s right now on newegg for 150 free shipping
