Thinking about making the jump from Nvidia to ATI... 6950 bottleneck question

Thread Starter
I'm thinking about making the jump from Nvidia to ATI. The new performance numbers of the ATI 6xxx series looks pretty good, and a bargain at only ~$300 shipped. Plus I read that the 6950 can be flashed to 6970 easily.

My question is, will my Q9550 overclocked to 3.4 GHz bottleneck the ATI 6950/6970?

I also have 8 gb of DDR2 RAM, and an ASUS P5B mobo (almost ancient, I know). The PCI express slot is x16... but I think it's only v1.0 or v1.1... which doesn't have as high bandwidth as v2.0, although I read that this isn't big of a factor with regards to performance.

Power supply is 650 watts, and powers the GTX 285 I currently have just fine.

Or should I just wait until Nvidia comes out with something better down the line? Is it worth it to make the jump from a 285 to 6950? I think it'll only be a net of $150-200 if I sell the 285 for a good price (EVGA 285 SC).

Thanks in advance, and don't tell the Nvidia guys I'm posting here

EDIT: Also forgot to mention I run games at 1920 x 1080 resolution on my 24" Samsung, with graphics settings at medium-to-high, 16x aniso, and a little AA.

at that resolution your gonna be fine, 9550 a 3.4 is nearly the same as phenom II X4 965 and clock for clock they are really close.

Also that resolution is more GPU dependent, that CPU dependent ! Rest assured, your Q9550 at 3.4 will handle it just fine !
