Low price motherboard supports 4 ghz stable?

Thread Starter
Im looking for a low price Intel motherboard capable of overclocking to 4 ghz and being stable if used all the time. I plan on buying an Intel i3 cpu, but im still looking for a motherboard that will have a low Vcore <1.5 volts that way cpu+motherboard temps will hopefully be in the 35c-50c range.

Ive seen a few ppl on here with low price gigabyte motherboards and the i3 core @ 4 ghz, but to get it there, the vcore is around 1.5-1.6v and cpu temps are 60-70c.

Does anybody know of a low price Intel motherboard capable of running low voltages and still stable when overclocked to 4 ghz? Please any input is helpful

Budget? "low price" is subjective......

The asus line of P7P55x-xx are good boards. Try to find a open box deal on one.

Are you sure you're looking at Core i3 overclocks? Another thing, are you looking at i3 overclocked to 4 GHz or were they oc'ed higher? Getting to 4 GHz shouldn't be all that difficult. I doubt you'd need 1.4V just to reach 4 GHz.

Trying to reach for chip limits, however, is a study in diminishing returns. You reach a point where you need to add a lot of voltage for a mere 100 MHz speed bump. Also, depending on ambient temps, 60~70C load isn't really all that bad.

If you want to overclock it is better to have an 8 pin cpu connector and preferably heatsinks too,so find a board with those features.

Doubt you'll find those under $100. Still, even a freebie Biostar TH55B HD is capable of oc'ing Clarkdale to 4 GHz (Fry's MB+CPU combo).

Now that you reminded me, in the post I read, the OP did say that he had his i3 running at 4.51 ghz prime stable with 1.55 vcore, so I'm assuming that at 4.0 ghz it'll hopefully take a LOT less voltage, and be more reliable?

Most important question is: What bare minimum features would I be looking for in a motherboard to get me to overclock to 4ghz for gaming?

Sorry I posted this after you made the recommendations lol I will start looking for those 8 pin cpu connectors and heatsinks

A lot on manufacturers do not post up whether it has 4 or 8 pin cpu connectors but after googling a little, I found this here http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...scrollFullInfo

It doesn't say anywhere that its an 8 pin cpu, however in the pictures they show it appears that it is. I actually found a comment of an owner who has this same motherboard with the same cpu I plan on getting, and he got 4.2 Ghz @ 1.28v stable out of his i3 core.

Would this be adequate?

Is there any reason why I would want to go with a P55 gigabyte mb as opposed to an H55? They both appear to be capable of 4 ghz stable, and have similar features and are the same price
