If no joy on the UEFI, perhaps there's a regular modded BIOS with an unlocked multiplier floating around. Maybe Stasio can hook you up (he's been a big help to me before).

Hi Almost Heathen,

Could you take a look on a modded bios that has unlocked multiplier to my Motherboard? The model is P67A-UD4-B3.
Its been almost 3 years since i've got an i7 3770k with an H80 waiting to be overclocked, but my multiplier is locked at 39X.
Thank you in advance.

Hi yahfz. Welcome to Overclock.net smile.gif

Unfortunately the one I see listed will probably not unlock the multiplier. I was told that updating the Management Engine Firmware might allow for the multiplier to be changed.

However, firstly, what BIOS are you currently using? Have you tried flashing your latest BIOS? If you're not familiar with this process or how to flash and invoke (if necessary) the backup BIOS, let me know and I'd be happy to try and help.

EDIT: Management Engine Firmware can unlock the BCLK, not the multi. My mistake.

EDIT2: The solution seems to be a custom BIOS (courtesy of Stasio) to flash the board to Z68 UD4, and then flash the latest Z68 UD4 UEFI, which unlocks the multi. Unfortunately, if not done correctly it can brick the motherboard, and it seems yahfz board no longer works. frown.gif

Hi, first of all thank you for helping me!

Im using the latest Bios, the F8 one from 21/03/2012.

EDIT: The bios was successfully flashed to the z68, but sadly the bios we flashed had no support for the Ivy bridge cpu. We attempted to use the backup bios, but it wasn't working and i had no monitor signal either. After thinking about my issue i figured why the backup bios wasn't working, the B-bios was old and had no support for Ivy bridge either, so i had to go on a local computer store and ask them to lend me a Sandybridge cpu (which they did LOL) and i quickly used the backup bios to re-flash the main bios and now it's working fine.

So after owning this board for over 5 years now, I have finally decided I want to make my computer less noisy when not under load. Is there a way to control the case fans with settings in bios on the z68x-ud5? I couldn't find any...

Unless Easy Tune offers case fan control (and it doesn't look like it does), no. To my knowledge, you need a fan controller or a fan splitter. Or you could start hacking up and splicing connectors, but I wouldn't suggest it. tongue.gif

Your manual states that the BIOS can control both CPU and "System" fans, though system fan control never worked for me (it runs ~100% all the time).

Details if you want to try it: Warning: Spoiler! (Click to show)
If you're using a non-UEFI BIOS, it's under "PC Health Status." I'd use Slope PWM and set it on max (2.50 PWM/C) because the BIOS is very conservative with fan speed IMO.

Further details from page 55 of your manual:
CPU Smart FAN Control
Allows you to determine whether to enable the CPU fan speed control function and adjust the fan speed.
Normal Allows the CPU fan to run at different speeds according to the CPU temperature. You can adjust the fan speed with EasyTune based on your system requirements. (Default)
Silent Allows the CPU fan to run at slow speeds.
Manual Allows you to control the CPU fan speed under the Slope PWM item.
Disabled Allows the CPU fan to run at full speeds.
Slope PWM
Allows you to control the CPU fan speed. This item is configurable only when CPU Smart FAN Control is set to Manual. Options are: 0.75 PWM value /oC ~ 2.50 PWM value /oC.
CPU Smart FAN Mode
Specifies how to control CPU fan speed. This item is configurable only when CPU Smart FAN Control is enabled.
Auto Lets the BIOS automatically detect the type of CPU fan installed and sets the optimal CPU fan control mode. (Default)
Voltage Sets Voltage mode for a 3-pin CPU fan.
PWM Sets PWM mode for a 4-pin CPU fan.
Note: The Voltage mode can be set for a 3-pin CPU fan or a 4-pin CPU fan. However, for a 4-pin CPU fan that is not designed following Intel PWM fan specifications, selecting PWM mode may not effectively reduce the fan speed.

Did you ever find a fix for the USB power surge error?

It looks like a very common issue with this generation of Gigabyte boards, and recently started happening to me (even with nothing plugged into USB 3), but I can't find any good info on a cause or fix (despite hours searching).

If anyone has fixed this, or has suggestions, please let me know (here or here: http://www.overclock.net/t/1584490/help-power-surge-on-usb-3-0-hub-with-nothing-plugged-in).

Unfortunately I never found a fix.. I don't use that PC as much any more since I built my new rig, but it still happens every once in a while, but it's so random I could never reproduce the error. I never noticed any negative issues though, it was just annoying having it pop up every 3 seconds when it would happen.

Anybody else ever have issues with an EFI/GPT OS install (OS boot failure and ntoskrnl corruption)? confused.gif
Not sure if it's the "hybrid EFI" these boards use or my HDD (which I have to ship for RMA tomorrow).
