what does "ff" mean - Page 2

It should cycle through a couple post codes before ff. If it lights up first thing ff, then it's probably fubar.

my 780i did this, and I had to RMA it, 5 times.

It is an issue with bios chip. Try pushing it into the board, see if it will go any further into its socket.

If not, and if as soon as you hit the power button it goes to FF. Then, it looks like RMA time.

Hopefully not, but this use to be a common problem with the 700 series boards.

FF should mean it's passed POST successfully. Make sure you didn't do anything like I did the other day, where I forgot I had plugged my monitor into another PC, and had left the DVI cable sitting out, which I just plugged into mine and wondered why it wasn't working.

FF actually is just 255 in hexadecimal.

Each BIOS step has a number (8-bit integer) and the last one is just 255.
Once again...
