ati 6970 temps?

Thread Starter
I think i have a problem with my video card. i have a 6970 and when i run MSI afterburner it shows my video card temp at 56 C at idle, is that right? plus when i run heavens benchmark it goes up to 72 C. If anyone else has a 6970 or any video card that goes that high at idle. plz let me know

also afterburner was on default settings at 880/1375 and 27% fan speed.

plus what is the TJMaxx for my videocard at idle and running games? so i dont fry my card when i try overclocking it?

Id say run a custom fan profile. and what really matters is ur load temps.U could change the tim and themalpads for some temperature improvement.

Edit
I wouldnt really run anything hotter than 80c

^What?

GPU's can go up to 100c safely.

An average card will hit the mid to high 80's while gaming. This is perfectly normal.

77c should be fine underload. Just make a custom fan profile on Afterburner to bring down the temps. Tim is themal compound or thermal paste wich is used usually in between your cpu and gpu to trasnfers the heat from the cpu/gpu/ to ur heatsink and your themal pads are made of fiberglass with thermal coumpound and are used on voltage regulators and such. On the other note i would leave it as is for now with a custom afterburner fan profile and see what ur temps come out looking like. I would do 50%fan 40c 60% 50c 70% 60c 80% 70c ect. See how that works for u.

Right now the 6900 series is having problems down clocking to 2D clocks when multiple monitors are in use. My second card stays at 500/1250 when I'm on my desktop and that makes my card run at about 50 C idle, the other card hovers around 35 C.

All in all, your temps are fine. Hopefully the next driver revision will tackle this problem...

You have dual monitors don't you? Then the clocks are higher on idle. My mem clock is at fullest on idle and my temps are on 50's.
