Backing up steam games

Thread Starter
Is it as simple as using the steam backup/restore utility?

I'm trying to move around files on my HDD's to get ready for SSD. Steam is the single largest folder I have, with Music, and WoW coming close behind.

If I did a backup of my entire library of games onto my external, is it as easy as uninstalling steam and everything related to it to clean it up, then installing steam again on a different hard drive and restoring from the backup file?

I'm hoping it is. I really don't want to download 120+gb of games again.

Isn't there a backup option in steam. But I too would love to know what OCN members suggest. I am sure there are plenty of us out there who are facing this issue.

This will be quite informative

Redownloading would be a issue, for example if someone has a bandwidth cap. Like for example comcast uers have 250GB bandwidth (thats lot).

There has to be a way for steam to allow backups of downloaded data already.

I always just move the whole steam folder to another drive. Make a steam shortcut and steam launches fine.

Does the steam backup utility also get the game saves? I'm curious.
