New CPU cooler

Thread Starter
Hi, I am in the market for a new CPU cooler, cause the other day my PC wouldn't start (switched on....then off) and after leaving it for 30 min it was fine. Now my current cpu has always run warm(hot) (60deg idle to 75ish max) I know its high but air flow is above great and I didn't have the money, but now I do.

So I am looking for a CHEAP (read low cost) cooler. In US $ terms like 25-40$, in South African rands R250-400.

I have always like Zalman, the CPS9500-9700 which are a little bit expensive.

Also one day, maybe next year (late next year) I will to upgrading so having a cooler which will support the intel/amd socket is pretty important (not out of the box but able to buy a baseplate down the line at least).

Thanks!

This. For budget, you really can't come close to the Hyper 212+.

ok first off if you plan to upgrade to intel down the road you will prob need to buy an adapter bracket if possible for 1156 since. And if you wait even longer intel will have a new socket. So dont buy planning to use it down the road plan to use it now. I would suggest trying to get a used TRUE, Megahelm, or h50. Those can be found in the 40-50 dollar range here on ocn. If you dont want to buy used check out this link.

I would say the hyper 212plus is one of the reigning budget coolers now a days.

Definitely in my price range, will look into it thanks. Will also look into its current support level and thus its possible future backplate support.
Edit.
Thanks, will be going for this one, after I check if it'll fit. Thanks

I will definitely also recommend the CM Hyper Plus 212 as it can be found at a price of ~$30 (USD) and many review site, such as Maximum PC have given it extremely high scores, and claim it to compete with coolers in the high-end range...

no I said 1156 meaning for sandy bridge. So basically a new one as of now might have it and will prob be included once SB is out. It already supports 1155 tho.
