Computers starts but...

Thread Starter
Hey guys. Just put a rig together consisting of:

Phenom X2 560
4 gigs of Kingston ddr3-1600 ram
Asus M4A89GTD pro/usb3
Radeon HD4850
Seagate Barracuda 1tb HD

Anyways, I press the power button and the case fans start spinning, the motherboard power light is lit up, the 4850's fan comes on and the dvd drive can open and close... but when the cm hyper 212+'s fan is plugged into the cpu_fan1 slot it just stutters twice and stays idle until I press the off button when it stutters twice again and then the computer turns off. Keep in mind my keyboard doesn't light up and the monitor doesn't sense a signal when it's turned on.

I switched the cooler's power from cpu_fan1 to pwr_fan1 and the fan works but the same thing, no keyboard or signal to the monitor.

What gives guys?

Did you plug the 8-pin from the PSU into the motherboard?

have you cleared the cmos?
Did you plug the correct 8-pin in? Some PSU's have two.

Other than that, I can't really say. It sounds like it isn't getting the power. Perhaps a faulty motherboard or psu.

Those are my guesses. I shall now let other OCN members post their thoughts:

I've tried just one stick of ram and unplugging the hard drive. No signal. I'll try clearing cmos now

Bad motherboard yo.

(Or you mounted it directly to the case without using standoffs and you're shorting the thing out.)

..or severely underpowered power supply.
