Looking for true beginner help OC my Asus P5Q Pro & E5200

post #1 of 10
Thread Starter
First of all greeting, discovered this forum thanks to a night of heavy google searching not doing a thing for me. I've been trying to wrap my head around how this all works, and I feel like if I can just get the values to get what I want done, I'll be able to better understand.

I'm running a rig with the items listed here:

Asus P5Q Pro mobo

Intel E5200 2.5 Ghz

OCZ stealthstream 500W

GeForce 9500 GT

CORSAIR XMS2 DHX 4GB (2 x 2GB) SDRAM DDR2 800

I've been told I currently have 2 bottlenecks, my CPU and Graphics card. I'll be upgrading the latter, but in the meantime I'm told that if I can OC my CPU to 3.0 - 3.2, it'll breathe new life into this for me, but I haven't been able to figure out how to do so. The various settings continue to confuse me, as there's just some number I can't seem to get right, so the system continues to deny my wishes. If anyone could assist me, it would be greatly appreciated. I have done my homework as best I can, but to a newbie like myself even these "begbinner" tutorials are a lot to comprehend.

CPU GTL = 0.65x
PLL=1.54
FSB voltage=1.26V
DRAM voltage=1.90V (or what memory requires)
NBv=1.20V
SBv=1.1V
PCIE/SATA voltage=1.50V

Those temps are OK..

You will not experience those temps in real everyday usage anyways..

Stock cooler right now. I was told that for my unit you can get up to about 3.5 just fine on stock, though I did order a:

Cooler Master Hyper 101i Heat-Pipes Direct Contact CPU Cooler Intel Socket LGA775/1156 RR-H101-22FK-RI

That will arrive Monday. At that point I'll see if I can safely do 4.0

*edit*

Added the info requested above. Sorry about that.

From here, how would one figure out on their own lets say how to get is up to 4.0, with regard to all the settings? I really want to learn how this works instead of just plugging in numbers. Is that better left as something that'll come with time?

Pay a visit to The P5Q Pro TURBO club as the owner of the club ocman has the same E5200 running @ 4GHz on P5Q Pro TURBO..

He will assist you to get your E5200 to the 4GHz mark..

But first you need to upgrade your CPU cooling..

I reccomend Cooler Master Hyper 212+ cooler as it`s cheap and GREAT performer..

You need to read guide for OCing Intel C2 CPU and to learn what are safe voltages to use..

CHEERS..

I saw that thread but since I'm running the regular P5Q Pro assumes the info contained within wouldn't apply to me. I'll take a look around for that guide and see what I need to do then!
