Sky Flickering

Thread Starter

I recently RMA'd my XFX 5850 and just got it back yesterday. Before I sent it in while I was playing Crysis I would notice that the sky would flicker. Now I have ran all the stability test with furmark and everything is stable. I even tried rolling back to 10.10 driver, no luck. This is also happening with Far Cry 2. Other games play fine. =/ Is this normal? What can I do to fix it?

i assume it does this at stock clocks as well ? or did you stab test at stock clocks ?

First I played the game with an overclock after testing for stability, then I set both cards back down to stock and the problem still exists. I just played Star Wars the Force Unleashed 2.

Is this with a single card, or Crossfire? Have you tried reinstalling the 10.4 or 10.5a drivers (as those seem to be the most reliable)? Also, have you updated your motherboard BIOS to the latest version?

with crossfire. No I haven't tried going back that far in drivers, and yes my mobo bios is up to date. Guess i'll give 10.5 a try.

You really think the sky flashing in these games is driver related or hardware related???

I'd look at software first before hardware. I know, in the past, I had a lot of weird issues with DX10 games on my HD5970. Some drivers fixed it for some games, while others broke it.

Without going too far right now, though, try disabling Catalyst AI in the CCC to see if that helps.

It defiantly has to be something driver related. I just loaded up Crysis Warhead and it plays wonderfully. 60+fps the whole time and no screen flickering. Uploading a video now. Sucks that the normal Crysis is acting glitchy.

I had the same issues as you with my 5850's. IIRC I ended using 10.3 drivers and the problem lessened with Crysis. I still had many of the same issues in Age of Conan and other games I had.

You can see from my sig what I ended up doing

I hope you get it sorted, I know what its like and the frustration of having these issues.
