They're not being pushed hard enough then.

Main problem with bloomfield is heat. You need a good Water setup to fully overclock it to it's max.

Batch and plain luck of the draw (I've seen chips of identical batches that have max OC several hundred MHz apart) are most relevant.

Most D0s should do 4GHz without much trouble, however. The less expensive chip is the better option in this case.

Not always.

My best OCing 1366 chip was an i7 920 that did 4GHz with 1.2v, 4.2GHz with 1.28v and 4.3GHz with 1.35v.

I've had three i7 950s, not one of them would do 4.3GHz on even the best air.

Best one does 4.2GHz with 1.35v and the worst won't go past 4GHz at any voltage.

A good water cooling setup cost more than the CPU. Top shelf air coolers (Arrow, NH-D14, etc) are up there with any watercooling setup you can buy or build new for less than 150 dollars.

Not so blame. More then enough for a 950 or any bloomfield.

In that case the higher multiplier might prove useful, but this far from a sure thing.

Only the best i7s are going to hit speeds where a 21x multiplier would really be a limiting factor. Even my budget boards can take any i7 I've ever used to 221MHz BCLK; that's potentially over 4.6GHz (few i7s will come near this even on the best water).

Regardless, my recommendation remains the same: If you can choose the batch, get the better batch, regardless of model. If the batches are unknown, or both seem to be good, go for the 950, but only if it's not much more. With a significant price difference between chips, the cheaper one (between the 930 and 950) is almost certainly going to be the better value.

Does look like a promising option. Know of any reviews that compare it to high-end air?

I might consider grabbing one and an MCX80 to cool my GTX 480...

Guys in the WC forum rave about these kits. If going with a 480 block as well look into the kit with a triple rad. It's only 20 bucks more

The 930 and 950 are nearly identical chips.

The 950 does have the 23 multiplier, but a lot of people are using the 21 multiplier to OC with the 950 as they're having better success with it. For £70 less, there's no point in going with the 950.

This is my 930 overclocked to 4.2 on air:

i7-950 overclocked to 4.2 on air, and he's using the same 21 multi for his OC.
