AMD Driver?

Thread Starter
Hey, quick question from a SSD noob. I know that Intel has a great driver for SSD, but I was wondering if there's anything better for AMD users then the default drivers Windows downloaded. I searched the forums for this topic and earlier reports suggested sticking with the default, but those were from a couple months ago and I didn't know if anything changed. Thanks!

Nothing really changed. Using your default drivers will be fine. Make sure that your BIOS is in AHCI mode for your SSD. Setting in IDE mode can degrade performance on SSDs and will usually result in lower transfer rates. Also, make sure that you have the AHCI driver for your motherboard... the AMD AHCI driver works great and I've had no problems with it in my setup.

Alright, thanks. I figure it was the same but never hurts to ask, right? I do have my SSD in ACHI mode, and it looks like it just has a default Windows drivers for ACHI installed.

I always thought that the windows drivers supported trim and the AMD drivers did not. I could be wrong though

recent reports have said that AMD's newer drivers (2010-Sep and newer) support TRIM now.

However since AMD keeps silent about what their upgrades actually do, it's impossible to confirm.
