CPUID Hardware Monitor question.

I know that this is not the correct forum, but I am hoping you guys have some insight for me.

While running Prime95 with stock clock speeds on my AMD Phenom X4 955, the 4 cores go up to 62c, but the processor temp only goes up to 46c. Am I supposed to keep the temp for the processor below 60c or the 4 cores below 60c? Thanks guys.... I am using CPUID Hardware Monitor to test the temps.

What motherboard are you using?

It sounds to me like the hardware mon is reporting a CPU Mobo temp monitor vs. the CPU reporting its own core temps seperately. For an AMD proc those temps are fine...

ASUS M4A87TD EVO

I'm just wondering what temps I should watch if I were to overclock to 3.4Ghz, the cores separately, or the overall temp of the CPU.

That question will need to be answered by AMD OC'er's. The big thing is to be sure you have a good aftermarket CPU cooler with a proper application of Thermal Compound. I don't know for sure about the newer AMD's, but the older ones were pretty easy to burn up because of lack of thermal control (one of the reasons some people prefer Intel CPU's).

Alright. Thanks for the advice!

Use the Asus Probe II or Asus AI Suite to get the proper temperature readings. The "Core" temp, the highest one, is calculated, and not the one that an overclocker should use, I think. The "CPU" temp is the one you need to look at.
