Need an upgrade, help advise best card please?

Hi all,

Straight to business, I'm running a 512mb 4870 at the moment, and it runs fine for world of warcraft and similar games that are more cpu intensive.

However, I feel it struggles a little with the newer, more gpu intensive games

What would be the best thing to do for my money (roughly £200)?

This 5870 is *suspiciously* cheaper than quite a few others, and obviously would be a huge leap forward in performance for me... What I need to know is WHY it might be cheaper than other 5870's, maybe due to it being replaced to the new 6xxx series cards that I know nothing about

And on that note, would I be better off with a newer 6xxx card for my money? I don't understand the new number much, but I hear the new cards were mainly to increase power efficiency etc

Let me know what you think

Is that in order mate? Is the 6850 the new 5870? If so, what are the differences?

Thanks for the help
Edit: I checked the price's for a 5850 and found this card, nice prices, although I dont know anything about MSI so can anyone provide a rough reputation guide?

I don't know the difference.

Would you be interested in my GTX460 set up for £200.00

I see nothing wrong with that 5870, it's not reference but i don't see anything wrong with it. If the gtx 470 and 5870 are the same price, either will do.

Thanks for the offer, but I'd rather stick with ATI. A friend just built with a 460 though, and they are impressive, so I'm sure you won't struggle to get rid of them on the FS area.

Thanks again for helping

out of those cards listed i would either choose hd 6850 if u r only gaming or the gtx 460 if u use apps which utilize cuda or want to use physx.....both of thee cards scale pretty well in sli/cf.....

In all honesty for another 15 quid I'd get this instead.

Chances of unlocking the shaders/clocks to a 6970 are high, and even at stock 6950 settings it's a little faster than a 5870.
