I do know my plasma at home has a very very very slight ghosting on it, but that is because of so many TV shows being broadcasted in 4:3 instead of full screen. But the ghosting is only noticed when displaying a solid black screen.
Any time else you can't see it. and if you watch a movie it goes away.
is that created due to the high contrast of blacks or what? ive heard people say that is image retention which is not anything to worry about.

Actually they don't cost more, energy difference isn't that huge and the heat part is negligible.

I have to disagree with the heat part, My plasma I have puts out a ton of heat, compared to the LCD I have or the LED my GF has.

It heats up the entire cabinet it is in.

Yeah my friend rolls with a plasma, he quoted the same sales pitch...black levels and viewing angles...but im a strictly LCD kinda guy. He also suffers from some ghosting or image retention but only in certain circumstances does he notice it.

This has something to do with TV recommendation how? Anyways LCDs and plasmas can suffer from ghosting and as said before image retention isn't as easy to come by like it used it. If ya aren't able to notice the deeper blacks then meh can't really do much about that (missing though though .
