Advice requested for o/c i5-750

Hi Folks,

Firstly. I am new to the forum and to overclocking. Having done of a bit of research into the subject I decided to have a go at clocking my i5-750.

I only use the computer for Flight Simulator x (with scenery addons etc) so smooth frame rates are key. The spec is:

i5-750 3.0 GHz using quick boost

4 GB Corsair DDR3

1.5TB HDD

ATI 5770 (o/c to 88OMHz GPU and 965MHz mem.)

Gigabyte P55-US3L board

Freezer 7 pro rev.2 cooler

.................................................. .........................................

I have overclocked the i5 to 3.6 Ghz (180 x 20) and it is currently running at about 36C idle and 60C with Flight Sim.

I have used Prime 95 and tested for around 4 hours with no probs - max temp under full-load was 65C.

The questions are;

a) are the temperatures OK ?

b) is this a reasonable o/c for a first go?

c) can I get any more from the i5 and therefore get even better and more stable framerates for FSX?

Many Thanks in advance for any input / advice

Steve

3.6 is a respectable first overclock. Your temps are fine and better than I might expect with that cooler. Most I5 7XX's will doe 4.0 with a little work. I highly doubt you could reach that with the Freezer 7 though. 4 hours of Prime isn't enough to determine stability. Prime95 Blend for 12+ hours will give you a much better idea of stability.

12 is good, but i have had workers fail after 13 hours. this might be a bit excessive but i always do 1 final prime95 run for 24 hours.

keep in mind, if a worker fails increase vcore. if you get a bluescreen or computer freeze increase vtt.

but also keep in mind if you are not there to see the worker fail and leave it going it will eventually lead to a blue screen. so its a good idea to check up on it every now and again.

after you are 100% stable, you can begin fine tuning. drop vcore 1 notch then run prime for 12-24 hours. if pass decrease another notch. do this until you lose stability then set the vcore to the lowest stable setting.

do the same for vtt.
