good job on assuming that the entire lot is the exact same as your worst case scenario.

that is really a bad way of looking at things.
When I bought my first custom built desktop. One of the ram sticks was DOA. but do you think that made me assume that kingston as a brand sucks.
not at all.

the original Xboxs had problems, we all know this for a fact.

Most of the later arcades had the new heatsink which fixed most of the issues with red ring.
Many people also mistake overheating as redring.

I almost flipped until I seen the white-out text. You got me good ;D

Anyway, don't waste your money on a 360. Get a PS3, it is by far superior in every imaginable aspect. Yes, even *gearsupforflames* online play.

If you want to play Gears that bad, then pick up the cheapest used 360 you can find. If you want an extensive list of amazing exclusives with a huge list of exclusive features ontop of an amazing gaming experience, invest in the ps3.

Edit: I've gone through 3 360's, I currently have two of them (one being RROD). 1/3 runs without an issue. I own 2 PS3's, both never failing since day one. One is the original phat, other is slim.

Pick up the 4GB XBox 360 S for $199.
This....

I have had three old model xboxs all of which failed. Don't ask me why I have continued to deal with MS, but I do own an slim now and I can honestly say they have improved it.

the reason why the new model is so much better is because they have the CPU and GPU on the same chip now, so it puts out less heat, which was the main reason for so much failure in the previous models.
They just put out way to much heat.

and of course better manufacturing process on the GCPU.

I would first like to point out that neither PS3 or 360 can actually play games in 1080P.

with that over with, I agree that a used console is a BAD move, unless you get it from a reputable source. (AKA a really good buddy who doesnt hack)

I also agree that a cheapo 360S 4Gb model would probably be the best buy right now at $200, as it will be new and shiny and also fill your needs.

Yeah, I'm sorry but this post is either a week later or about 360 days early.

I've got an Elite. Got it about 2 years ago and I've never had any problems. I think they solved most of the RROD issues after the white Premium Xbox with the Elite. I've got a bevy of friends with the Premium that have had there's crap out and just as many that have the Elite and have had no problems, so I'd say go Elite or better.

Just getting a console for one game though seems silly. To each his own, though, and if you've got the money to throw around then do it. If you see yourself with a future in console gaming, spend the money now to get a good model. I'd recommend the new 4GB Slim (I've got a 120GB hard drive and haven't downloaded anything other than installing Halo 3 onto the hard drive). If you're just going for one game, buy the cheapest used one you can find.
