980-x OC

post #1 of 29

Okay so started to OC my 980x so far this is what I have, what do you think?

156x29 = ~4.5Ghz
Vcore = ~1.38
QPI = ~1.35
CPUPLL = ~1.87

Highest Core temp at about 52c after 1hour of Large ftts Prime95

So far stable through 1 hour of Small Ftts, 1 hour of Large Ftts

...next step for me is 36hrs of blend.

Edit: Batch 3035B799

HT is Disabled

I'm not going to comment on disabling ht- every time I see it I want to throw my monitor at someone.

Any particular reason you're not just using multiplier for your oc? Also that's a big increase in pll. What's that about? I'm not being sarcastic, I'm actually curious.

I have always found best results with a 1.87 PLL intel recomends between 1.8-1.88

You do know that HT is old tech right? The i7 just reintroduced it from Intel and it is shown to effect 3d performance negativley.

I run mainly 3d apps and have no need to run 12 threads when I only have 6 cores. If I wanted 12 cores I would have bought 2 proccessors each with 6 cores.

gotta make sure the IMC is up to speed as well! that can add a LOT of performance if it is clocked high. anywhere from 3.6-4Ghz on the IMC should be just fine. (although it needs more QPI/VTT)

EDIT:

Judging by the people I've been seeing it from I'm assuming AMD had something to do with it. Hey, if a guy wants to blast a thousand bucks on a processor he doesn't need with a technology he won't use that's his decision. Even the link he provides says nothing about affecting 3D applications- in fact quite the opposite. I digress.

Anyway, back to the point- this guy apparently knows everything so I'm pretty sure he doesn't need any help.

Why don't you stay away from my forums since you are seemingly a degenerate.

Oh wait here is another article about HT

http://www.xbitlabs.com/articles/cpu...0_7.html#sect0

18% performance loss in left 4 dead 2. (This game was probably made in 1980 though right?)

You are obviously a fool, I hope you cure cancer folding.

... Sorry but ... why the hell did you bought a 980X ... if in the end... you are disabled multi threading that means you really don't need computing power... u just need speed right?

eheheh

But... well, QPI voltage is tad high ... :x usally ... the higher the QPi voltage is, the "lower" the PLL needs to be.

i'm running mi 930 @ 4.2, 1.26v @ cpuz ( 1.28 bios ), my Qpi is 1.255 or 1.275 don't remember and my PLL is 1.7 ( lower than the default 1.8 )

My ram recomends 1.35 QPI I could lower it so far four hours on custom blend no problems and temps under 60c. I might trying pulling the PLL down, but I don't want to cause instability.

I certainly did not disable multi-threading. I am running a 6 core processor with 6 threads. I am just not running a 6 core processor that is attempting to run 2 threads over 1 core.

Most people, especially with almost no rep, really have no technical understanding of what is going on inside their machine.
