That being said, I am in no way telling you how to use your CPU. If you don't want to use HT then don't use HT. I would personally suggest you see what kind of performance difference you see with and without HT using the applications you use most commonly. Different applications handle multiple threads differently. Try it for yourself, you may be surprised.
My point is I have tested it with my 920 and haven't found significant gains and I have found some losses(though Ill admit not a lot).

I can certainly compile a list of every program I use if that is necessary to satisfy people.

However, I am also running my system on only 750w with 2x580s and 1 980.

In heavy loading apps I am already using 700w and As I said I like to keep the Voltage low.

Anyway interstingly enough the Voltages I posted first need updated.

I am running this
  1. Vcore ~1.36
  2. QPI ~1.32
  3. PLL ~1.69
  4. IOH and ICH ~1.5

Still at 156x29 ~4500Mhz Ram 156x12 ~1872 Uclk ~3744

Doesn't this basically say that there are very few appliation optimized for HT?

I read also HT works poorly in Citrx

Yep basically. There are a few that highly benefit, a good number that show very minimal(1-5%) gains and several that have negative effects though these are typically rather small (1-5%) while others are massive(50% - Sparse Scientific App)

So it really comes down to finding evidence that shows whether your programs are actually going to benefit or not and if that benefit is large enough to justify the extra heat.

On the Citrix specific question I'm not sure. I'm looking for articles on it but not having much luck yet.

I agree with you completely, REP UP, my problem is people attacking me for "buying a 1000$ processor that I don't know how to use" when they are clearly over medicated and *** to folding all day long.

Edit: Not that there is anything wrong with Folding, but a lot of people think everyone uses it.

I can understand where both are coming from for the most part. Everyone who lurks the forums here has seen someone say "You paid for HT why wouldn't you use it?" That's probably led a lot of people to enabling it when they really don't need it to be honest and in many cases its a numbers game: 4/4 or 4/8 and 6/6 or 6/12. I think that's just amplified when it comes to a 980x and its price tag. People assume its going to be tasked with high-intensity applications and consequently it should essentially have HTing enabled.

Clearly though it comes down to the individual users preferences and what programs they're going to use. Some will benefit, others will not, that's just how the programs are written to operate at the moment.

Anyway good luck with the stabilization and nice vcore on that 4.5!

Been stable now for about an hour(Prime still running atm, of course) I have to give it to the guy who told me to turn down the PLL, that aloud me to lower the Vcore. I think I have a good batch from what ive read, but we will see Custom Blend takes a day or more to really cover all areas that could be unstable.

Ill probably run 12 hours of small ftt after Blend just to be sure. Then I can start validating and running some benches and probably reinstall Win7

That is a very nice clock. Mine topped out at 4.35 at 1.4vcore. couldn't seem to do better than that without going higher vcore. From what I have seen the B batch seems like the sweet one for the 980x. Have you tried going up to 1.4vcore and seeing how fast it will go?

I have found with my molecular modeling program (Accelrys Materials Studio) it likes HT enabled, but only 6 threads specified. It actually runs significantly slower if you specify 12 threads, or turn HT off and specify 6 threads. I agree that it all comes down to what programs you use the most, and how they perform with HT.

I too wish people would stop immediately assuming that since we have bought a 980x we must be stupid and not use our computers for anything but gaming and epeen. At the end of the day though, they still have their i5 or phenom, which serves them very well, and I have my 980x which has saved me many many hours.

Full loop of P95 small fft should take you about 3 some hours. I would let P95 small run for couple hours just to make sure your voltage settings hold up to possible changing ambient temperatures. Then move onto P95 blend which tests ram stability.
