My I5-750 is at 4Ghz at 1.26V.

Max temps are 63C during IBT.

House temp is 23C.

You should have a lot of overhead to play with, have fun.

Thats what i get for typing this up in the middle of the night

Anyway, I meant 160MHz for the base clock, but as I'm starting to get the impression that overlocking is quite safe, perhaps I should go a little further?

This is probably going to be a permanent 24/7 OC, which raises a question in my mind - Would it be safe to run permanently? (with an overnight shutdown every few days or so)
Well it should be fine to oc further

24 wise its fine last 5 years i've left chips oc'd for months without messing about with them.

best thing to do for a mild over clock such as this is to go into your bios and write down all your stock voltages. then manually enter them and leave nothing on auto. vtt=1.05, pll=1.05 and the dimm voltage is different for all ram so check the specs on the ram you bought and enter the voltage manually as well as the timings.

after everything is manually entered increase your bclk to 160 and try to boot. if it boots run prime95 for 12 hours. if you pass ok then you are stable. if you get a error, or worker thread quits, or a blue screen increase the vcore a notch or two and run another stability test. with such a mild over clock you may not have to mess with the vtt voltage at all, but as others have said every chip is different.

i think if anything you may need to increase the vcore a few notches and quite possibly the vtt as well. remember to keep your ram at its rated speed or lower, this way the ram can be eliminated as the cause of any instability.

try all this and let us know how it goes, and good luck with your overclock.

Well, I did the overclock, now it runs at about 53C on full load with Rybka Aquarium and at 60C with Prime95 -

CPU-Z result HERE

I will probably set the voltage to manual and lower it the default as AliceInChains wrote - Thanks btw

Thanks to everyone else too!

You are more than welcome. Like you I am new to overclocking but what I have discovered so far is that everyones rig and cpu are different - very different. It's a case of follow somew basic rules and then try to find what actually works for you. My set up that I posted earlier is totally stable with prime 95 and excellent with flight sim (no CTD's, freeze-ups and the like) but fails the intel burn test. If anyone can explain this I would be grateful.

Take care and good luck

Steve

SHould try lowering voltage on that overclock. 1.3v for 3.3Ghz seems pretty high. Most i5's will do that on stock voltage.
