vdroop? new mobo?

Thread Starter
Hey guys,

I'm at 3.4GHz at 1.4v with my Q6600. (1.45v bios) and under load it varies but 1.388v-1.40v is where it normally stays.

This is stable for 50 Passes on Intel Burn Test with High Memory selected.

I'm just asking if a bios flash would help me with vdroop.

If I put say 1.55v bios it will read 1.52v idle and under load it drops down to as low as 1.36v and such.

I'm running bios 1201 for my ASUS P5K. Just found out that it's the latest version.

Anything I could do to eliminate vdroop? I did the pencil mod years ago and maybe it's worn off.

Load-line calibration is on, however it doesn't make a difference with this board.

I think the next thing I have to do is simply buy a GA-EP45-UD3P or a UD3R.

But unfortunately I won't have the money until next month.

I'm at 3.4GHz at ~1.4v but I really want 3.6GHz but no matter how high I go for vcore, it droops down and doesn't really provide a stable vcore for me.

Not sure if it's worth dropping another ~100-120 on another board to eek out 20 more FSB; however, I am on watercooling and I hit 60c on the hottest core for LinX / Intel Burn Test 50 passes. So I do have a bit of room to overclock to 3.6GHz and maybe if my chip is any good, 3.8GHz.

At this point, since I just got my Q6600, I really want to get a Q9x50 but like I said I just bought this Q6600.

A new motherboard with a Q9550 would be ideal for me, ie the UD3P/R

What do you guys think?

Sounds normal to me, although if you did pencil mode as you say maybe time to redo
