Dumb Question?

Thread Starter
Is there any beneficial motive at all as far as matching your mobo and graphics card brand? I have heard mixed opinions on this.

brands dont matter, its the components they use

an asus board wont do better with an asus graphicscard then a gigabyte board that has same components as the asus board

I have not experienced a trend wherein mating identical manufacturers of GPU's and Motherboards yielded higher performance values.

There are benefits (evidently, but not from first-hand experience) from creating a build from components designed for each other, (i.e. Dragon Platform)

Again, that is merely speculation on my part.

i had no idea they used the same parts, and that you happened to metioned the two brands I was trying to decide between. I was going to get gigabyte only becuase It for some reason bothers me if the gfx card and mobo brand dont match but I have had by far the best experience with asus mobo's in the past. Now that I know they use the same components ill probably just get the gigabyte mobo. best of both worlds i suppose

Makes not difference. The parts are designed to work with whoever else makes a compatable part.

I know some like to do it for a theme build or are just brand loyal.

brands don't matter.
unless of course you were going to do a fanboii build (i.e., all asus components)
It only really matters if you have any particular preference or loyalty towards one company, or you are looking at your build purely from an aesthetics point of view. A good example being Gigabyte motherboards are hard to pair up with video cards due to the blue PCB. Typically Sapphire and Gigabyte will use blue PCB's in their non-reference cards, but often times you would have to wait a while after an initial GPU launch before you can gets your hands on one.

However, if you don't care about that sort of thing then you'll have more choices open to you.
