Projects of The Month for January 2011

Thread Starter
Starting with this month, we have a new method for Project of the Month. Every month, we will take the 3 projects that we are the lowest ranked in and appoint them to be the PoTMs. We choose 3 projects due to that most of the low ranked projects have little to no work available.

For January, the Projects of The Month are:
LHC@Home
Seti@Home
SZTAKI Desktop Grid

Make a note that Seti@Home supports computation on Nvidia GPUs

You should record our starting rank for the projects and then at the end of the month, compare the rank we have... see what kind of improvement we get.

Is LHC up and running? Their site says:

Um, I joined Seti, and SZTAKI, and joined the Overclock.net teams for both. SZTAKI had updated once for points, even though I have significantly more points that that, but Seti hasn't reported any work completed for me. Anyone know why?

Don't worry it'll come to that. On my first day there were 13 WUs of SETI that didn't report right away and were just sitting there idle.

I ran seti for a few weeks a few months ago... I was still getting credited for random units months after I had stopped.

It takes a day or two to start crediting them, and the credit keeps coming in long after you have stopped tongue.gif

We have been screaming through the rankings on SZTAKI Desktop Grid.
Seti@Home seems to be a consistent climb, but at the rate we are currently going at, it seems that Seti will be a PoTM for February. Not a bad thing at all considering that it is a popular project.
LHC@Home seems like there is never any work.

LHC@Home only ran a few years ago (pre 2008 I think) to get data to stabilise the proton ring at the LHC. I was hoping they'd release an application to study the resultant data from the science runs, but it looks like they're only using their local grid.
