I feel sorry for you, the Eclipse is the second worst keyboard I've ever used. Worst is a slim HP board.

I'm with the OP!!! Stick it to Best Buy!

I doubt their Extended Warranty would have covered that yet they would have been overjoyed if you bought it.

Scissor switches are also fairly indestructible and easy to clean. Just wipe it down. As long as a crumb doesn't get struck down there because then you'd have to carefully pop a key. No biggie if you use a few tricks.

Because most of the mechanical keyboards you can buy these days have Cherry switches in them...
Off the top of my head I can only think of are the Topre/HHKB.

And I'm not sure what you hate the Eclipse so much Crazy. As far as tactile response goes its leagues above any Logitech keyboard. I had a hard time understanding the whole mechanical argument until I tried out a G15 at Bestbuy, because the Eclipse isn't bad at all. I've had mine for 2 years and I can still feel them snap. It only took me about 5 minutes to readjust.

I can think of more, including Unicomp which is cheaper than most Cherry switch keyboards, far more better built/durable, and arguably far nicer for typing. Either way, it's a rather sensationalist thread title that's predicated on the failing of one switch design, even if it's the most common one in terms of newly produced keyboards. If the most popular brand of car has dodgy breaks, can we say that all cars can't stop?

Somehow this reminds me of those kiosk keyboards and medical keyboards build to withstand people puking or bleeding over them. Patient might die, but at least the keyboard will live.

But this is the logic process of a 2 year old "all tomatoes are red so all vegetables are red!!!"
I mean really this is all due to user error, i think if i put a can of coke on top of a new flat screen and let it drop down due to my carelessness and eventually the acid ate away at the LCD film and half the screen became cola colored, i don't think i can go and tell the best buy lady "idk half the screen looks dark, this is why i'm returning it".
mechanicals are not flawed because you fail the aluminum can test, liquids just do not mix with electronics.
