A few BC2 performance questions

Thread Starter
Hey everyone, I currently am running 2 gigs of ram @ ddr2-667 (333 Mhz), but the ram can go to ddr2-1066 (533 Mhz). If I run the ram at 533 Mhz will it pose any threat to the hardware overall? Also where do I change this?

Another question, if I bought more ram would BC2 run more smooth? I get pretty terrible fps (avg 20-25) or is it time that I need to get a new cpu altogether?

If it's PC8500 RAM, then it's quite capable DDR2-1066 speeds, and your motherboard is capable of running it that fast. You will see improvements.

What's probably limiting your computer more than your RAM is your video card, and the fact that BC2 runs better on quads. It really depends, though, on what graphics settings and resolution you run at.

If the RAM is rated to run 1066 mhz, then there should be no harm at all. Just adjust the timings and vdimm as needed.

Also, try turning off HBAO. It can lower your fps by a good deal.

More RAM won't help much.

Better CPU and GPU. Not sure in which order.

The 4830 is better than I first thought it was. It's probably your CPU, then. What's it clocked at?

For reference, I used to play BC2 on an 8800GTS at 1920x1200, with all low settings and tolerable framerates. How much of a performance hit do you get by increasing your resolution?

On your case, a quad core CPU would help more than a new GPU.
Also, overclocking your rams won't make a big difference.

The CPU is probably whats holding it back, I struggled to run a lot of newer games on my dual core Opty and that was a darn good CPU.

Obvious quick fixes are to lower the res, play it in windowed mode if you can and lower all settings, quit all background programs and tidy up what processes you have on boot to save up some ram space that you may need.
