Gta IV question/problem

Thread Starter
Well I downloaded GTA IV from steam and ran it. I put all settings to max including distances and all that to 100. The game ran okay but when I viewed around with my mouse it was all choppy. I ran a benchmark and it said 53fps. But it's kind of choppy ingame and when im moving around on my mouse.

My graphics card are crossfire 5770.

And my cpu is intel core i7 930 3.36ghz.

Is the problem my cpu? to low or something? I heard GTA is a very cpu intensive game, but will my cpu be fine for future games and stuff? i am kinda nerves.

my cpu came overclocked to 3.36ghz, i am afriad and don't no how to get above that. so i am stuck at 3.36ghz. will this be enough for future games? and new graphics cards.

THANKS!

GTA isn't optimized for, and doesn't play nice with dual card setups at ALL. Disable crossfire.

Go grab CPUZ, it will tell you your definitive clocks right down to the MHz.

Alright so if I go buy let's say a 6950 or 6970 i'll see much better performance in GTA IV?

And my cpu is good for the future as well right? or let's say it will be decent?

Your CPU is perfectly fine for the future. Nothing wrong with it. I can also personally guarantee a performance boost if you get a 6950 or 6970, however, remember that GTAIV is a more CPU intensive game than anything due to the physics engine, so first try disabling crossfire, and see what happens. Thats literally what I have to do to get my desired 60+ FPS in GTAIV, disable crossfire.....BUT, the 2GB of GDDR5 memory on the 6900 series cards will no doubt be a huge advantage and help things like pop in, draw distance etc, which is probably the ultimate cause of a lot of your stuttering.

Your CPU is overclocked to 3.33, it's all good. now, disable crossfire! see if it helps.
A 6xxx series GPU will help you have some more aa AND shadows at a higher FPS.
But again, try disabling teh crossfires.

And also, you have 1 of the best CPUs available on the market
