Porn doesn't come with viruses usually, it's more spyware on pr0n sites. But the experience is actually better on Windows since Windows has better support for codecs in general as well as proprietary codecs (Flash etc.).
It comes with both. Plenty of people get viruses from downloading porn.
What? VLC ftw?
Isn't linux the only OS to actually have 64bit flash support?

I've put ubuntu on family computers before as an experiment (and no they probably were not watching porn) and they really did not have a problem using it. In fact some of them liked it more. One of my family members didn't even notice that I changed anything.
I lol'd.

I'm sure they'll encourage Russian citizens to start using Russia Linux but I believe zee Russians are motivated to adopt GNU/Linux because they want to give the US economy the finger more than anything else. I mean, they could've easily just used Red Hat or any commercial GNU/Linux distribution, or Mac OS X for that matter. But they don't want the US economy to make profit through Russian computers.
Agreed, and another reason why they wouldn't want to use Chrome OS even if it is free.

Hopefully never. We'd all miss you.

Also, KDE>than Win7 DE. Linux & BSD can be/are > than windows & mac for just about everything I can think of. Few exceptions: games (the mainstream ones), Bluray playback (maybe it has/will change in the future), and I can't think of any others right now.

Further, the driver thing is kind of an AMD/ATI issue; I stayed away from them because of this known problem (I'm a noob, have mercy). That type of thing is not so much an issue from Linux it's self but the hardware makers failures. One of the reasons I didn't even consider a USB/PCI WIFI adapter is the hell you go through if it's not one that is automatically covered by the kernel or distros.

It currently comes down to whether you want to spend a little bit more effort and get a lot better results or just settle. That's the only difference I see between Linux and windows in the general user's world.

For the last time, don't blame Linux for not being game friendly. Blame MS for DirectX proprietary nonsense.

And blame the devs for not using superior openGL/GL in general. Tesselation had been around for what 3 years with GL, and DX finally gets it with 11? Stupid, stupid devs.

I don't really blame the devs either. They have companies to run and mouths to feed. If my choice was to swim with DX or sink with OpenGL, I'd choose DX too if I was in their position.

I blame MS. They pushed DX so hard to keep control of the OS market. Brilliant strategy on their part. It's just too bad that the users had to pay.

Stallman is a perfect example of the saying "There's a line between genius and insanity."

Yes, but most people don't understand how to install an operating system. I know Ubuntu has dumbed it down a lot, but in many cases that's not enough. Just burning the Ubuntu ISO on a CD is more than most computer users can handle.

Sure, but that doesn't stop them from downloading pr0n

VLC sucks, to be honest. MPCHC is way superior. And MPC-HC is exclusive to Windows.

Codec development has always been superior on Windows. Everything from GordianKnot to Media Play Classic, VSFilter, etc. etc., and that's not because Windows is superior but rather because Windows is the standard desktop operating system.

Flash sucks either way. Useless codecs that ought to be ditched (Apple did the right thing). I'm looking forward to HTML5.

Correctomundo. Truth is, GNU/Linux (to be precise, the GNU GPL as a whole) isn't business friendly. It's great for peer-reviewed software development but it sucks when it comes to making profit out of it. And most game developers and other software businesses are aware of it.

Russia seems to be aware of it as well, because they definitely have a political incentive to develop a national Russian GNU/Linux version. The loser here is the US economy (it's not like most Russians, Chinese and other third world countries pay for Windows anyway, just saying).

He's not particularly genius. What he did wasn't anything new. He just applied Marxism ideology on a software license. Also the guy is a paranoid bum.

AMD is open sourcing the AMD Fusion drivers, let's hope they'll do the same with Evergreen and Northern/Southern Island drivers.

Fight the battle against communism with Microsoft Windows! When you use Linux, you're computing with Stalin.
