Ram for Sandy Bridge - Page 2

If your not going to get a K series chip (overclockable cpu) then yes go with ~1600mhz ram.

If your going to be going for performance and overclocking 2000+mhz ram would be the way to go and can be found for under $100.

I will be getting K edition.
But i thought it was K edition that had unlocked cores so you could change the multiplier to affect the clock speed, but not the fsb speed?

To my knowledge there is the 2500K (4 core) and 2600K (4 core 8 thread) both have unlocked multi's for overclocking and no other SB chips can be overclocked.

I would suggest this ram for cheap http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820211463 I own several Adata kits with out issue though Im unsure of the support as I havent needed it.

Or these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820104179 for good support as well as these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231410

All have the same chips underneath the heat spreaders it;s just a matter of preference based on looks and product support should you need it.

I am austrlian, thus i cant get it from them.
www.mwave.com.au is the site i use, or a link to the ram on special is:
http://www.mwave.com.au/category.asp...rtBy=price_asc

Edit, what if i dont plan to overclock, or overclock to just 3.8 or 4ghz instead? Would 2000mhz really be needed?

It's all personal choice based on budget and desire.
You wont likely notice a difference between 1600-2000mhz but overclocking is all about getting more
Pick out some sticks within your budget but look for the highest clocks per timings.
Preferably 1600mhz 88824 at the least.

the mushkin ram i wanted has a latency of 9-9-9-24 and test voltage of 1.55volts. I notice its higher then what you said, and im assuming higher is worse when speaking about latency.

However some Ram from A-RAM Pro Series has the Latency you state, and some G.Skill Trident, though i dont like the looks of there massive heatsink thats very tall.

Would there be a 99% chance of the mushkin ram working with sandy bridge?
If not, whats the chance of it NOT working?

Thanks, just ive read a few times of people making sure ram is compatible with the mobo and is supported by checking documentation. Though i wasent the chance of it working/not working if it wasent, assuming its very low, and thats what you just said to .
Thanks

I heard SB support up to 1333 Mhz and up to 1.5 v. So, I guess I heard it wrong..
