Laptop IDE have a different pin count than desktop IDE.

This should suit :

Yup... Desktop IDE uses 40-pins while laptop IDE uses 44-pins. The pinouts are identical except the laptop has 4 additional pins for power and the pins are spaced tighter.

I have an adapter that I no longer needed... want it for $3 shipped?
Once again...

Once you
1) Power off your PC (IDE isn't hot swappable like SATA)
2) Install the drive + adapter into your PC
3) Boot

The drive should populate in 'My Computer' as it already has a valid Windows file system.

Also, make sure your mobo doesn't try to boot off the 30GB HDD. XP will begin to load and BSoD.
