How much is DDR3 worth?

Thread Starter
If it turns out my board is dead I'll need to pick up another - I'm not too keen on buying used or third hand after this experience because I'm left without a warranty. However if I stay on DDR2 that's exactly what I'll have to do as the current DDR2 boards are terrible.

The most I want to spend on yet another motherboard is about $80, clearly I can't pick up DDR3 and a DDR3 board for this price... But I could sell my TG 1066 for probably $50-60, which would give me about $140 generous, and I could probably swing for another $20 making that $160 for DDR3 + board...

The problem is that lands me in the econo group of products if I go new/open box...

That lends itself to finding a 8+2 phase power board with mosfet cooling...

So there is this: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16813128416 $140 (ignoring shipping)

DDR3 2000 - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820227569 $63 (9-9-9-30 timings - overvolt and tighten/downclock)

That would be $203 - $140 = $63 to jump to DDR3, is it worth it? I'm still on the a dated chipset but better pcix lanes..

What do you guys think? Or should I try the marketplace (for ddr3 board/ram) and grab stuff with warranties still available?

You should get this DDR3.

http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16820231303

Its only $59.99 after you put in the promo code.

I can't believe I got them for $109.99 back in May.

I also bought them for 109 back in may LOL.

Yeah this is good memory, I'm running it underclocked to 1226 with 6-6-6-21 timings, gained me almost 100 points in 3dmark06 over stock 1600 and 7-8-7-24.
