Question about setting AHCI

Thread Starter
I have the ASUS P6X58D-E with 6 SATA 3Gb/s and 2 SATA 6Gb/s ports. My question is when I set AHCI in the bios I set it under the storage and all my drives including the ssd are on the 3gb/s ports and I configured them all the AHCI. Now, the Marvell® 9128 PCIe SATA 6Gb/s controller had it's own window under the bios to configure it for AHCI, but I didn't because I don't have any things plugged into the 6gb/s ports. Should I have enabled in separately for that controller as well if nothing is being used on it.

I'm working on getting writes back up, they are getting really low, so also if you have any suggestions lmk. I give the ssd time for TRIM to recover, and I don't benchmark it constantly so I'm pretty disappointed in my write speeds, thinking about doing a secure erase and starting over.

The Vertex 2 doesn't use SATA6G so I wouldn't think you need to enable it. I thought once you enable AHCI it is enabled? You can just plug the SSD into the SATA3G port.

If no system drive was connected to the Marvell then you can switch it in and out of AHCI with no problems, you'll have to install the drivers for it when you reboot of course tho.

On my board you can configure AHCI for each chipset but you have to do it separately apparently.

Like you said nothing is connected to those Marvell ports so I'm going to leave it at the default configuration and only configure AHCI for the 3GBs chipset. I just finished doing a secure erase hdd and I'm going to start over with a fresh install.
