SSD or...

Thread Starter
I have this 100$ newegg gift card and I'm planning on spending it on my sig rig. I use this rig soley for TF2 and the usual BFBC2 / CS:S. I'm not an audiophile and so I really don't need a sound card.

I'm planning on getting a NIC or SSD. Killer 2100 to be exact as I can really use the lower ping it advertises when I do my competitive TF2 matches. My boot times are fast enough for me even thought I have my pc on 24/7.

If I get an ssd, it'll be for booting and steam games, probably just steam games.

I really only play FPS and so I don't know if I'll need an ssd.

I love the speed of my computer with my ssd. I was in the same boat... $100 to best buy. Thats where I got my crappy intel one. I am pretty impressed with the boot speed and overall pc performance. I will probably never go back to a regular hdd for boot. I have no games whatsoever on my ssd. It is strictly windows and programs. Games are on my 500gb f3. You will see no gain whatsoever except load times from having them on an ssd and $100 will get you a good 64gb sandforce ssd

IMHO SSD's are a waste. I mean yeah there nice and you get faster loading times, but im doing just fine with a 7200, no need to have that fast of loading times or read/write speed's but that's what I think.

NIC cards wont really effect you THAT much in games, but helps immensely in huge MMO's, but since your playing FPS you will see minimal difference and I honestly think you wouldn't be as satisfied as you think with it.

I'd recommend a new mouse and/or mechanical keyboard. I've seen them around newegg, or get Razer's new black widdow.

My .02 cents.

Just like there is no need for fast CPUs, lots of RAM, or a good video card!

Your opinion is wrong. Nothing increases how fast your computer feels like popping in an SSD, nothing. I am guessing you haven't used an SSD yet, so you don't know the difference it makes.

My SSD was one of the best upgrades I ever made.

As you can tell SSDs are awesome. They are like spaghetti to Italian people, but better.

Go for the SSD. I'll make everything you do faster, including TF2 load times. I really can't see that NIC being more than a gimmick, so I'd rule that out right off the bat.

but I will say that for FPS games, a good soundcard/headphone combo can mean the difference between life and death. Not so much for TF2, but In Counter-Strike: Source, knowing where someone is due to where you hear their footsteps coming from really gives you an advantage.

Actually, I kind of agree with Emerican. Sure it's snappier but just not worth the money quite yet (until it becomes cheaper). In my experience it was going from fast to very fast, and personally my WD 1TB Black was fast enough for all my uses.
