How Hard does 69xx Crossfire Rock, Really? (56K Warning)

Thread Starter
So, I've heard a lot of folks talking about the incredible value/scaling/etc of the 6970 and 6950 (including those unlocked to 6970) Crossfire setups lately. Some have gone so far as to say that unlocked 6950's will hang with 580's in SLI, etc, for far less money.

And since I'm always game for upgrading if the cause is good, I'm just wondering ... how much smack does either of these setups lay down over my current rig with heavily OC GTX470's?

If someone with xfire 69xx cards would be so kind as to post identical benchies in Crysis to my run here, so I can see for myself what degree of domination is involved, I would be much obliged

Bring your best clocks, seeing as how that's what I did as well

Also, 3DMark11 tests would be cool to see

P9773
GPU: 10372

http://3dmark.com/3dm11/103140

A matching Metro bench run would be similarly awesome

All Settings are Maxed at 1080p resolution here, except Advanced PhysX is left off since we don't want GPU-based PhysX involved in a comparison like this.

I wish I could help Brett, but sadly I dont have two 69XXs. I'm also interested in seeing the results, although I have reason to suspect that the 69XX (even when OC'd) wont pull that much farther ahead.

Bump for a good cause.

I just realized something... Isn't true that ATI users have to force AA in CC for it to take effect? Of course I could be wrong; it was just something that I had heard.

S'all good brother ... I know you'd help if you could

Pretty sure that both the Crysis and the Metro benchmark tools will enable AA with AMD cards if you choose it ... At least, I was sure that happened with my old 5850 xfire setup, so unless things have changed with the 6xxx-series ...

I went with 4xAA in Crysis because I know that 4xAA is the same w/both AMD and nV cards. Once you get above 4x, they start to diverge in how they operate.

Yeah ... and it's kinda odd because if you look at the FPS graph in AB there, which represents three runs (plus the initial loading screen) there is no place that the FPS has any serious dips, so ... I'm pretty sure the tool is giving an incorrect reading there. Either that, or the dip to 30fps is so short lived it doesn't even get graphed.

I can tell you for sure that once the test gets loaded (i.e. when the camera gets down to the beach) I never see less than 45fps throughout the run.

Not the best example, but some guy on another forum with a 6970 (stock clocks in CF) posted this. I'm not too impressed with this particular score. Something to take note of, he has HT off and since I dont have 3dmark11, I cant say if HT off/on helps the score.

Sorry to burst your bubble but the 5770 isn't the end all be all.

edit:
do not get me wrong, these are great cards, and have handled everything I have thrown at them. Even at 1080p (reasonable settings of course for games such as metro etc) but they aren't no 480.

also it took a while for ATI to come out with some decent drivers, although it seems some people had issues when others did not.

Thanks Youra.

Here's the comp link between his and mine:
http://3dmark.com/compare/3dm11/103140/3dm11/251810

He's a tiny bit behind in the Physics test (like .5fps) even though he's clocked higher (I'm at 4.1, he's at 4.3 ... and we both have turbo enabled here), so maybe HT has a tiny impact, I dunno. His gfx score though is 9663, whereas mine is 10372. I'd think that CPU doesn't affect that piece.

As it stands, though, we're pretty much neck-and-neck, trading blows on all the tests. I'm wondering if an OC'd set can take a lead over my 470's in the graphics score?
