assuming you havent already?

I would say that this method is riskier

Besides. You'd be gaming at an extreme resolution of 7650x1600 or something. You NEED the 2gb of the 6970's... 1gb cards choke VERY easily at 5760x1080.
1.5gb isn't gonna be enough for that extreme res of yours...

Because the displays don't support it

1.5GB is enough.
Even 1.25GB is enough for Crysis Warhead and BF:BC2 at least.
But 1GB per GPU is not going to make it, most of the time.

You are ignoring the fact that the OP has TWICE the pixels of 5760x1080

If a 1gb card chokes at 5760x1080, 2gb will choke at 7680x1600.. But 2gb is the best the OP can get so :/

It depends less on the resolution but more on the level of AA which the OP has not mentioned (yet).
If no AA, then most games do not go over 1GB Vram even at 3x2560x1600.
Once AA is turned up, all hell can break loose.
The more AA, the uglier is the mess (but more pretty the picture is).

A MrCrowley has shared much of his experience with 7680x1600 at Wide Screen Gaming forum.
I suggest the OP goes over there and ask around.
In the meantime, these threads might be useful:
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com...ic.php?t=16077
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com...ic.php?t=16184
http://www.widescreengamingforum.com...16689&start=30

But 1 thing for sure, having more Vram will not hurt.

I will check out those links in a bit. As for AA, possibly 2x might be runnable but I can't imagine any higher. As for the other stuff, I'm going to wait for NVIDIA response, probably borrow my buddies 5870 to check out eyefinity and make sure it will work. One issue I have had with ATI was the dp monitor would black out for like 5 seconds seemingly random when I had 5870s.

Check out the VRAM thread in my sig. It doesn't work that way*

The geometry throughput of Cayman is inferior to that of GF100 and GF110. Even though the VRAM buffer on the 6970 is bigger, the ROPs in the GTX 580 handle the threads faster.

I find it funny now that AMD releases a card that comes with 2GB right out of the box people think they need it. Who says the VRAM needed to game fluently is magically going to fall in between 1536MB and 2048MB? The performance of the GPUs usually crap a great deal before the requested memory nears the limit of the available VRAM.

*Look at the Metro 2033 memory list. compare 1920x1200 with 1920x1080

Quite true.
And remember that the HD5870 EF6 has 'only' 2GB for 6 monitors.
And the mighty HD5970 has 'merely' 2GB (ie 1GB per core) to drive 3 monitors.

Apparently Nvidia doesn't like them working together I'm assuming it has something to do with sync polarity. I just e-mailed them, and I'm sure I won't hear from them till Monday at the earliest. The question I have is that if I cannot get them working in Surround, I believe they will work in Eyefinity. Now I cannot find much on 3-way 580s vs 3-way 6970s. I am impressed with the scaling of the 6970s though, and debating on selling the 580s and getting the 6970s to work, but FPS I usually play in 2560*1600 so I don't want to lose too much performance at that resolution, and want the surround/eyefinity for Racing/Flight games.

The other option might be to return the DS-305w and instead get another 3011 if 2 of those would work with the 3008. Although this option would cost me roughly ~$450. Any suggestions will be appreciated. Thank you.
How do you like that doublesight 305w? i was reading about it

It's decent. Controls are cheap feeling, but picture is good. Only options are up/down for brightness. Only one dvi port.
