OP:

The CM Elite 341 is pretty good, but you will need to allow the top 2 optical drives to be open for cable storage. There won't be any power supplies that are "short" enough that have enough wattage and amperage to juice your system AND fit an optical drive. It'd be the most frustrating thing you could deal with.

Just don't occupy those two bays with drives and you'll be fine.

It also has enough room for the 5870 and have a fan blowing right on it from the front

Not only nearly as big, but as big. I believe some of Antec's own ATX mid towers (like the NSK4480) are the same size, and I think the original Lanboy was smaller.

That is not true. There are decent higher wattage PSUs that fit just fine with optical drives installed. Friend of mine has an overclocked Core i7 with SLI GTX 260 in his running off an 800W PSU with optical drive. You just have to get one that isn't super huge. For instance, a PSU like the Antec TPN 750W is squarish and would fit fine, and has enough power for Crossfire/SLI using two high end cards. You just have to take PSU physical size into account when purchasing.

The Elite 341 and Elite 340 are completely different, and are both decent cases. I haven't seen the 341 chassis used in other brands but the 340 is the same as used in the Athenatech A301 series, and the Silverstone TJ08.

AFAIK the Elite 340 is discontinued because I haven't seen it in ages at the usual places, while the Elite 341 seems to be still available.
