H70 vs XSPC RASA RS240

Thread Starter
Not by a performance standpoint but a practicality standpoint

Both will cost me $100 (h70) or $150 (rasa+white tubing+ptnuke+shipping)

H70:
Pro:
Safe
Cheap
No maintenance

Con:
Ugly as ass

Rasa:
Customizable
Far better cooling

Cons:
More expensive
More hassle from setup day to changing water
Leaks
Possibility that everything will explode from leaking and I lose my rig.

The h70 way:
How do I make it less ugly?

Rasa way:
How do i prevent leaks and the possibility of losing all my goods?

What do you guys think?

First part: sorry don't get the reference

Second: it looks like a bulky black block. A very ugly block. I could paint it white, but I feel like that would do nothing. Now it would be a painted white ugly block. Don't say fuctionaikity over form. I like good looking things.

I heard if the H70 leaks and destroys your rig, Corsair will replace your parts! Don't know how true that is but that sounds awesome.

How do you make the H70 less ugly? I would guess some nice fans, paint the top of the CPU block, mod it to add a reservoir or tubing. I'm pretty sure modding it will void the warranty.

How do you prevent leaks? Leak test it over night outside of your rig. Even though you can visually check if there is a leak, the first time I did it, I got some paper, drew a bunch of lines with a marker, and put it under the loop. If it leaks, you will see splotches and smearing of the marker. Tighten all barbs by hand. Make sure the O-rings are intact. Don't rush the setup process.

So between the two, the Rasa would be a better buy if you want to get deeper into the watercooling game. If you don't want to deal with the extra worries of a configurable loop, just stick with the H70 and call it a day. There isn't much to WCing though. Just make sure everything is tightened, tested, and placed where they should be.

EDIT: Lol! Didn't notice you were the one I helped yesterday. I only noticed because of the heart on your avatar. Hope you figure things out. Good luck!

Btw
I'm 17, am I being too ambitious if I go the rasa route?

And yeah I remember! Thanks again for this.
I most likely will go rasa but how bad is the maintenance ?

Nope, I don't think so. As long as you are willing to read up, learn, and emulate, you'll do just fine. I think I remember seeing another OCN member being a teenager <18 who had a pretty good loop going on. Forgot his name, but I remember he mentioned he was young so he didn't have a paypal account. But he did have a WC'd rig.

EDIT: For maintenance, as long as you keep your water clean with killcoil or PT Nuke, maintenance is very minimal. I just like to flush and refill my loop every couple months while I'm cleaning the inside anyway. Also, if you use some kind of dye, you may require a flush of the loop to clean the blocks of built up gunk.

That's it? So basically inspection of the parts upon arrival, then 1 day of testing, then setup, then no need to worry for say.. 4 Months? I'm getting white tubing so I won't need a uv dye.

Pretty much. Some people like to flush their new radiator just to get rid of traces of dirt from production, but for me, it was sort of cleaned during the leak test.

Also make sure there is water in the loop. A pump with no water = a broken pump. With a closed loop, it will never need refilling after the first time. But I know my first time, my water levels were dropping and I didn't know why. Later on, I found a minute leak on the res that dripped slowly where I couldn't see.

Hopefully someone else can share their experiences. I have only been WCing for about 8 months and only know so much.

EDIT: Forgot a word.

mate go the rasa option. the h70 is great but its a b***ch to get into some cases and the rasa has a bigger rad so its gonna cool it better at higher clocks. the h70 would look good with the rad and fans painted or a painted custom shroud. but personally id get the rasa. wc setups arent hard but are scary. just only connect the pump and jump start the psu with the jumper wire trick and run it for a few hours on its side or something so you can see leaks

Yikes I'm scared guys. I'll get the rasa, and pray nothing goes wrong. I'm gonna get kill coil and premochill (I think thats what it's called) white tubing, bout 1 meter or a yard of tubing.
