How do I set these up?

Thread Starter
Long story short, my old college buddy got me a couple of massive loudspeakers for Christmas. They came in a brown box without cables or even instructions. Now I'm not a hifi guy, I don't know anything about amplifiers for home audio systems, I mean I know how they work, but that's it. I don't know anything about brands or price ranges. So right now I need a good and relatively cheap amp, cables and some fool proof instructions. Oh yeah, I also need to connect the whole thing to a blu ray player, I guess.

ewwwwwwwwwww eltax

go find a cheap second hand amplifier, the manaul will tell you how to hook things up.. dont worry its really easy. prolly just by looking at it and you will know how.

i wouldnt get an to expensive amplifier for these speakers since they not that good tbh.

just get simple cable's to, as cheap as possible but dont go with to thin wires. 2x 0,75 or thicker

How about this one?

It's like the cheapest possible amp on amazon that doesn't look like complete garbage.

I know nothing specific about the amp nor the speakers, but they do have the required connections to get audio amplification from the amp to the speakers.

The tricky part my be getting audio output from the Blue Ray device to the Amp.

What audio output options are on the Blue Ray Player?

I have one of those relatively old blu ray players, a Sony BDP-S360. It has a DIGITAL OUT (COAXIAL), LINE OUT (R-AUDIO-L), DIGITAL OUT (OPTICAL) and a whole bunch of other stuff.

Connectors

Coaxial Audio Digital Output(s): 1 (Rear)

Component Video (Y/Pb/Pr) Output(s): 1 (Rear)

Composite Video Output(s): 1 (Rear)

Then it seems that the hookup should be fairly easy.

You can run the coaxial cables from the output on your BR Player to your Amplifier input, and then use speaker wires from your amp output to your speakers (it looks like that is what the speakers are set for).

RadioShack (although more expensive) will have the parts you need.

I may be wrong but I think that's an ant. plug on the reciever. I am thinking he may need to hook these up through analog stereo (the red and white plugs). Go red/white from the blu-ray to the amp then from the amp you run the wire to the speakers. Unfortunately there is no optical in on the receiver so you can't benefit from that, it would be 5.1 audio capable though. It also looks like there is a stereo jack for an input from something like an MP3 player or a PC so you could use that as well.
