well intel is most likely out of the question cause you would need a new mobo and generally cost more than amd not to say you don't get what you pay for with intel or couldn't sell you current mobo.

it would ben ice to know what cpu you have currently

AMD 1090T BE? I think its a little over but is the most powerful AMD chip out and runs along with the i7 Intels.

Well if that is the mobo you have then your gonna go with amd. If you wanna use all 200 on the cpu alone then go with 1075t. If you don't wanna spend all of it on a cpu then get a cpu/cooler or anything else really. Can you download and run cpu-z and take a picture so we can see what cpu u have.

If this rig is basicaly a gaming rig. X6 core is a waste of a cpu. Only a x4 is needed.

I don't know, if I was going to upgrade I'd prob go to a x6 in the hope that game devs might all one day realise that people have lots of cores in their computers.

to OP:
Before that though, I'd prob see what mileage you can get out of that 2.4 GHz chip. Perhaps put some liquid cooling on it.

I assume it's a core 2 duo, you could prob give that a kick up the arse and make it perform pretty well, most games are coded for dual cores after all. (I believe)

Edit:
Best bang for buck would prob be an intel Core i5 750 if you can exchange the mobo for a 1156

It would be very helpful if the OP put info on his sig rig. But yes, if you can exchange your mobo for a 1156, go for the i5-750
