Brand new computer build from. Need sugestions

Thread Starter
Hello. This is my first topic, so I hope I'm in the right place.

I want to build a brand-new machine with a budget of about $1200 (+/- $200, just in case).

What I want to do with it: almost anything, from programming to gaming.
I especially want 2 things: windows and any programs (like Firefox) I launch should start as fast as possible (closer to instantaneous ); at least 2 displays (resolution of about 1920x1080) capability.

I was thinking of:
1. AMD Phenom II X6 1075T, 3.00GHz (Socket AM3) - $260
or AMD Phenom II X6 1090T, 3.2GHz, socket AM3, Box, Black Edition - $300
2. ATI Radeon HD 5830/5850 (5870 is too expensive I think)
3. 8 GB RAM: Corsair 4GB (2 x 2GB), DDR3, 1333MHz X 2 - $130
4. Corsair F60 SSD - $150
5. Western Digital 1TB, 7200RPM, 64MB, SATA3 - $110
6. MB Gigabyte 890GPA-UD3H, socket AM3 - $175
7. Also a Case and a Power Supply (Thermaltake Element V and Sirtec 850W maybe?)
8. If possible, in the not-so-distant future I would like to go with water cooling, which means that everything I buy should support it.

Anything is changeable. Please, any suggestion is greatly appreciated.
If nothing else, at least help me with choosing a graphics board and a MB.

I also have an Intel/nVidia configuration in mind, but I'll post that in the Intel forum.

Thanks.

a few thoughts from me- take the smaller Phenom (1075T) and OC it, even though 1090 is BE, you won't be able to raise the multi much- 3.2 is pretty high for that CPU already.
The 5870 has significantly better performance than 5830, you can dig arround and find it cheap.
Take 4GB RAM instead of 8, but faster. It will do you good, +later you can always add new sticks. If you start with slower sticks, you won't be able to add faster ones, as they'd run at the speed of the slower.
Consider a mobo that supports DDR3 2000- the 6 core will love it

I would suggest the 1075t, from what I've heard it's the better value of the two. 8gb of ram is probably overkill I would suggest starting with 4gb @1600mhz vs 8gb @ 1333. I would say that for a gaming pc that choice of video card is not so good. If you're on a budget check out the GTX 460, it's a great value and a really good performer. Lastly, "if" you're serious about water cooling that case is not such a good choice. But given that you're budget conscious, I would suspect you will decide to stick with air cooling after you get your rig put together.

Hi guys.
Thanks for the quick response.
I was thinking of an AMD & nVidia, but since there are so few MB which support AM3 and nVidia I tought I was better off with ATI.
MotherBoard selection is the hardest for me
I was actually looking at a GTX480 but with an Intel processor.
(Intel config can be found here: http://www.overclock.net/intel-gener...l#post11840941 in case you have suggestions)

Go with at least 1600Mhz RAM on an AMD build, it can be had for cheaper prices and has better quality. There is a great XFX HD 5830 + XFX 650W combo with massive discounts, look for it; even then with $1200 you could probably easily fit a 5870 into the budget along with an SSD, 6 cores, 8GB RAM, etc.
I'd help you by configuring you a build from scratch but no can do, right now in Manila it's New Years eve and I'm about 2 hours out from a new year
Maybe tomorrow. Good luck!

Given your budget I would go with an i5 760 w/ a noctua ndh14 and overclock the crap out of it. Grab 4gb of ddr3 @1600mhz and a gtx 570. That's bang for your buck right there bro, and unless you're gaming @ 2560 x 1600 or video editing it's all you will need.

I wish you all a very happy new year!

Thanks for your suggestions.
The main problem for me is that, as far as my "gut" tells me, AMD and ATI play well together, but AMD and nVidia don't. I like AMD and LOVE nVidia... which is a big issue I suppose. Is it only my imagination? If not, any motherboards recommentations? For an x6 with gtx 570 SLI.

Thanks

It's just imagination, yes AMD CPUs work better on an AMD chipset, also with AMD/AMD/ATi you get "the Dragon Platform", whic *should* work better, but no actual tests prove it.
IMO, get the cheapest/fastest card, no matter ATi or NV

Here are a few changes you might want to look into:
GPU
Personally I would go with a lower end 4XX series like the GTX460 preferably the 1gb version.
Hard Drive
That hard drive is way over priced. Go with the Samsung F3 1tb. It is faster then the caviar black and nearly half the price.
RAM
Why do you need so much RAM? Unless you have an actual reason you need a lot RAM like for virtual machines you don't need more then 4gb. Especially for gaming you don't need more then 4gb.
Power Supply
You don't need any where near 850 watts for this system. Get a nice 650 watt power supply and you will be fine. You can easily SLI 1gb 460s on a quality 650 watt with ease.
