Skype and FIOS

Thread Starter
Hello,

I hope I chose the correct forum, anyway, I have FIOS at home with about 25mbps up and 5.5mbps down on both my wired and wireless machines. We've tried Skype on both and have been running into the same issue where Skype says the connection is very poor (red) and it's very difficult for the people on the other end to hear us and the video is extremely poor. For the most part both video and audio are fine on our end, except when quick movements are made there is some blurring.

I've checked the connection via SpeedTest while running Skype and it says that the up and down are similar to what I stated above. We're using version 5.0 right now. We also tried Logitech Vid HD that came with the camera and my wife said the same issue came up.

I just got off the phone with FIOS and they said they aren't doing anything to block it, otherwise it wouldn't work at all, so after searching the internet for some time now, I thought I would seek any information you all may have here. Anyone have this issue or know of a way to resolve it?

Thanks!

Have you tried downloading anything and seeing what speeds it downloads at?

Perhaps a Steam game since it tells you your speed while your downloading.

It could be the modem/router that verizon provided you with... unless you're running it in bridge mode and using your own router? Otherwise the NAT does some strange thigns regardless if you've turned off firewall and opened up ALL ports.

Been having issues with NAt being moderate with Actiontec combo modem/routers with Verizon DSL. I imagine the one provided with FiOS would be behave the same, unless you specified to your tech to use ethernet instead of coax and then used your own router.
