New SLI Setup concerns

Hi all,
I just got my hands on a 2nd Palit GTX 460 2gb
Set them all up now they are a little close for comfert, but given my case and the size of the PSU ive no choice.

Anyway my primary concern is the temperatures my GOD they have sky rocketed, im talking 80-90c after less than 20minutes of bad company 2. Even with custom fan profiles 100% speed on the graphics card fan.

2nd concern is i ran a 3dMark11 Basic bench marking and the score seems to be LOWER than before? Going from P3397 to P3393 and for some reason its only recognising 1 card on the results?
(though this could be to do with the cat its only a basic freebie addition?)

(though everything else recognizes both cards working fine, device manager, nvidia control panel etc)

Anyway what can i do to resolve this?

hmmmmm I recommend getting a after market cooler for the hot card, maybe something like this? http://www.quietpc.com/gb-en-gbp/pro...acoolers/vf770
as for the sli thing, iv heard quite a fair amount of stuff about 3d mark not recognising more than one card, but dont worry because it still is using both its just a little bug. good luck

I'd really prefer not to have to resort to aftermarket gpu coolers, especially considering before I had sli the single 460 only ever maxed at 80c after hours of bad company 2 and the house heating was on full blast! Other games like age of conan maxed around 75c.

So why are my temps 90c+ just from sli, its mad!

As a side note my haf 922 has a 200mm intake fan on the side panel
post #5 of 26
What is your ambient (room) temperature?

The top card will be warmer since it's intaking warm air from the sandwiched 460 below it.

(and that psu is super overkill...a quality 650-750 would run it just fine)

*ninja edit*

My advice to you, invest in a side (case) fan and set it as intake.

My sandwiched 5850's had no problems with temps. When I switched to the cards I have now temps were 25+ degrees hotter on the top card. I would hit 99C in Metro and 92C in Age of Conan.

I ended up getting a better mobo so now I have one full space in between my cards and the top card never breaks 75C. It was not a cheap solution but it was a fun one

good luck OP. Oh, and 3dmark 11 does not work with SLI yet without modded drivers.

Probably the same as I had it in the Scout:

A big temp jump (10-20C) is normal with cards in SLI when sandwiched together vs. a single card, esp. on the top card. 90C is not a big deal for Fermi cards though.

If they're not exhausting cards (like evga EE) try your side fan both as intake and outtake, see if one is better than the other, and use AB to crank up the fans a bit.

And as stated above, SLI doesn't work on 3dMark11 yet w/o modded drivers, so that's the issue there. Frickin' ridiculous, but true. Try Heaven w/sli enabled and disabled. You should see some serious SLI scaling going on there

Pretty much the same layout as mongoloid, I can't move the bottom card down to the lower pcie x16 slot as the beefy psu is too big. I'm using the bottom card as my primary to output on the monitor as I was hoping temps would be better, doesn't seem to matter though, regardless the primary card is too hot and the secondary maxs around a much more respectable 70-80c I really don't know what more I can do.
