If you have that flag enabled, you may get those units depending if they have enough to give out. Sometimes there is shortages since all the work needed is completed and then you will just get regular SMP units.

The why do we have to wait until we get 10 WU's done before using -bigadv flag?

Cause you need 10 work units to receive bonus points, consider it a test to see if your worthy enough.
If you want you can do bigadv without bonus points but you will get like 1k PPD instead of 30k, that is your call.

Yeah, but there should be some crafty way to get a performance boost by feeding the jobs memory to get them done faster. especially since the FAQ leads one to believe that the High Performance clients would be able to benefit from extra memory.

Memory, in MB, to indicate (1013 available) [1013]?
Sets the amount of memory seen by the work servers. By default, it shows the full system memory amount. Note that reducing this setting does not reserve more memory for other programs. However, reducing this setting will prevent the client from downloading memory intensive work units. A setting too low may prevent the client from getting any new work. (if name WinSMP*In the SMP client, .5 GB per CPU core is the minimum, while 1 GB per core is recommended

That's why I was thinking 4096, since I have 6 avalable.

You have to take that up with Stanford and see if they know a way of utilizing extra memory for better calculations. I have my doubts if not they would have done it by now.
The best you can do is tighten your timings and probably get like 1% better TPF if your lucky.

Also if you really want to squeeze every bit of PPD you can, try stripping down your OS and leave the basic necessities for F@H & network.
