Q8400 not running that well

Thread Starter
Hello everyone. I have my Q8400 about a year and a half now, and recently i succeeded in o/cing it @ 3.6Ghz, but i do not see the performance i was expecting when i am running benchmarks. Let me give you an example. When i ran Super PI 1M it finished it @ 16,600 sec. A friend of mine who has a Q9400 @ 3,2 Ghz and 4GBs of RAM @ 800Mhz got a score of 16,800 sec.
I also got 23000 Points @ 3D Mark 03, and i was expecting at least more than 30000 points. Is this my cpu performance, or is something wrong? What can i do? Just to say it won't overclock more, I tried.

Not sure of the specs offhand, but I'm guessing the Q9 has more cache? I'm at 3.2 24/7 on my Q8400, and when I ran a 1M SPi I got 16.5s. That's not a full on run, I had some background stuff running. My best at 3.6 (I think 3.6) was 15.14s. What else is in your rig that may be slowing you down?

The Q8400 is more the budget class of the C2Q's, your numbers seem right, and may be a result of a smaller amount of cache compared to the Q9xxx series.

Not to make you feel bad, but my Q9550 at stock speed, 2.8ghz, I run 16.5 in 1M super pi.

I do not think it is the RAM it is at 900 Mhz, maybe the chipset (p35), which is old?

Q9XXX have 6MB, and Q8XXX have 4MB. Can cache make that much of a difference?

I can't feel bad about it. I have a friend with an i5 750 that every day reminds me how good his cpu is.

as others have said, that little bit of extra cache the 9xxx series has makes allllll the difference.

lol, dont you hate that? i got this guy at work who was bragging about his e8400 to everybody. i felt it was my duty to put an end to his glory by showing him some screen shots of my i7-860 running at 4ghz on my ipod touch.

funny thing is, he wont talk about computers with me anymore. lol.

First off, Taso, bud get rid of your avatar; I think I am dizzy now lol. I did a little research and as someone said above you have what's considered the budget model. You scores seem to be correct.
