I'll take "Tighter timings for 20 bucks" Alex biggrin.gif But the 9-9-9 ripjaws X wouldn't be THAT bad either
post #24 of 41
I was in a hurry and accidentally bought these http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231407

Should I call newegg up immediately? The only thing I'm worried about is it not booting, then I won't know if the ram is the problem...

This is probably a stupid question since I'm not too knowledgeable when it comes to memory, but these should work on P55 chipsets as well, right? Of course to each board its own frequency limits, but let's say a P55 board supports up to 2133MHz, these would do fine?

Yes P55 is dual channel as well.

I'm scared that with those 1.55v chips clocked at 2000MHz my SB which is 1.5v stock and doesn't natively support 2k that it won't boot when it gets here.

I ordered a 2x2 set of Ripjaw's and will probably just cancel/return the non x jaw's

You can set the clocks manually but the RAM you linked will run at 1866 per SB. It'll boot.. The X RAM is just new packaging nothing more. The RAM will clock down and then you can tighten the timings.. You have options, don't worry.

I really feel stupid. The ripjaw X's and the others are the same thing? Where can I read up on this? I'd really like to know.

Nothing to feel stupid about, just look at the timings. Here is an example:

Ripjaw: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231401
Ripjaw X: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16820231431

$40 dollar difference, save memory. There are only so many chips (IC) out there that can achieve certain timings at a given speed. All G.SKILL has done is re-purposed (Designed Specifically for P67 rolleyes.gif) and re-packaged (new blue heat spreader) and.. poof, more money for them.. same memory.
