5770 OC Stability

Thread Starter
This one gets me!

Using the sticky guide, I OCed my 5770 to 991Mhz Core/1374Mhz Mem. I tested with GPUtool & 3dMark11. It is completely stable. The temp on the card never rises above 63c and the fan never more than 50%. Is this a decent OC for a 5770?

Anyway, here is what gets me. I ran Movie Maker, and started watching a video I created. 3 minutes in I got a WSOD (White Screen of Death). GPU is completely locked up and I have to reboot.

Could anyone explain this to me? Or at least give me a lead as to what might be going on?

Thanks in advance.

I found the same. Passes all the stability tests yet fails in real world. I found my 5770 was best at around 900/1350 although for most 920/1400 was OK if numbers are your thing and fan noise doesn't bother you. I never messed with voltages - didn't need to. I found Overdrive in auto tune crashed the card.

I tried to push the numbers for my 5770 and upper 900 is a high clock IMHO for this card. But you have found what I found...maybe a tad too far

Yeah Autotune crashes for me too. It seems the card is really bad at VPU recovers etc. I always have to reboot if anything goes wrong.

Mine won't go that high on memory. 1374Mhz is max. I can't change the volts either, as I have a non reference card.

Was the instability a glitch in the Matrix? I mean, it wasn't exactly pushing the card or anything.

I found that my memory clock did not like real world applications over 1335 MHz.
When I first overclocked the card I was furmark stable 1030 MHz core, 1400 MHz memory. After playing bo, and bfbc 2, had to gradually drop those down to 1000 MHz core, 1335 memory to get "real world" stable. At higher memory clocks I would get white screen freezes, black screens, video memory glitches. None of that happened during furmark stresses.

I have the MSI Hawk version of this card, allowed me to alter the voltage.
The memory clock voltage is locked at 1.6v however.

Ditto to the above. 950/1400 is pushing the 5770 for real world performance IMO. Especially in gaming when after hours of fraggin' the heat builds up. I found backing off the OC to around 910/1350 made all the difference

Same idea.
I had zero issues running 3DMark 11 at my higher clock speeds.
But all sorts of issues with bfbc 2.

Any problems running anything else?

I'm running 1065/1450
Mind you my fan curve is very aggressive, and I have mem sinks.

That's really high for a 5770, are you on stock voltages?
