What limits Black Ops (multi) performance?

Majority of the time I get great performance (hell, I SHOULD, the game engine is like 4 years old) but it seems on a lot of maps if I'm squatting in a far corner looking in towards the map I get hammered. I'll drop down from fps averages in the hundreds all the way down to 40-70fps. This is playable in itself, but throw in the performance hog of 3D Vision and I'm fubar.

For instance, lets take Nuketown. If I stand in the backyard behind the white fence and look towards the map, no matter what settings I play with, I cant get more than ~70fps. NUKETOWN! That map is like playing dodgeball inside a cardboard box! On Array, standing on the high ground behind the tractor, I'll get down to 40 sometimes.

I upgraded vid cards for 3D Vision performance in other games, but I was also hoping it would help my Black Ops frames. No dice. High res/low res, AA/no AA, high settings/low settings; none of it noticeably affects my fps. The only thing I've done to the cfg is fixed the reversed multi-gpu/cpu settings. Any other recommendations?

I've even been working on overclocking and, although its helped more than other things, it hasnt done as much I'd hoped.

-Is COD:BO cpu limited, gpu limited, or just poorly optimized?
-Does anyone else share my same experience? (see your frames with /cg_drawfps 1 in console)
-Would anyone with similar specs and COD:BO experience let me know if theyre in the same boat?

Black ops is ridiculously poorly coded. That was pretty much the whole issue with it in the PC community. It was even unplayable for people with quad rigs when it first came out.

check your GPU usage while playing with MSI afterburner beta 5.. Your card will hover around %30-60 usage. Just wait for some proper driver fixes. With the quadro drivers and modded INF my GTX 570 with 3d vision was able to run bad company 3D with 60 fps because it fixed the GPU usage issue. It will be playable soon, just takes time

To answer your questions. Yes, it is poorly optimized, runs best with a quad. Yes, I have virtually the exact same setup and I get the same results. Yes, I am in the same boat! lol

Affirmative, at least I'm not alone. I kinda wish I was alone, cuz that would mean its fixable, but oh well.

It's also capped at I believe 70 fps besides vsync. Console command to uncap fps is com_maxfps “125″. Besides that you're not alone. It's a poorly coded mess. Hopefully they patch it up before they churn out another one and stop supporting it.
