ASUS P5N-D NVIDIA nforce 740i SLI ready
4GB RAM Patriot (2x2GB) Enhanced Latency
Seagate Barracuda 7200 RPM 1TB HDD
Thermaltake 600 Watt PSU

now those are my specs i run crysis on very high with 8x AA but...

Crysis runs off your GPU basically. Source Engine games, like Half-Life2, run off your CPU I don't think it is Hyperthreaded bu I'm not sure...

Yea, the Pentium D is slowing you down in CPU dependent games. Source as previously mentioned, and BC2 is another example.
Mind you, that the Pentium D are just Pentium 4's slapped together.
And welcome to OCN

I used to have a 2.66GHz QX6700, and it still bottle necked by 5870..
What you should get is this:
http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...-041-_-Product

Or you could get that 2.66GHhz you mentioned and Overclock it, with a good after market cooler...Since those chips do run hot.

EDIT:
But let you tell you this, I wouldn't pay that much for a Quad-Core of last gen. And now almost 2 gens ago.
You could easily get a i5 760 and overclock it without problems for the price.

My advice:
Save your money, and get a Sandy Bridge CPU+Motherboard+DDR3 RAM.

Or if you want save even more money and save your DDR2 RAM, get a AMD Phenom 1050T or Phenom 955 or 965.

a newer LGA 775 cpu would help out quite a bit. your cpu was at the top of its class, back in 2006 but is now quite outdated in relations to newer models. If you can, pick up a q9550. There are usually a few floating around at any given time in the for sale section.

^ lol 8ball said basically the same, but you'll save some coin by looking in the for sale section.

Just save up your money.
And if you want to possibly save your mama some money get a 1055T or Phenom II X4 955 or 965 and a DDR2 compatible motherboard, and you're in business.
