If I enter and build a case for the competition does it have to function (installed mobo etc).I have been thinking on a few ideas but I'm not sure I would use the case once done.

From what I remember asking Rado, the case itself does not need hardware in it. But it needs to be able to support hardware. Hardware however, will usually increase the cases visual appeal.

It would be able to work.It's just I'm thinking I would install everything to take pics and then remove all.Unless the idea does work better than I think it will.

I has to be designed to house an operational computer (can even be an XBOX, PS3, etc). While it is technically not required for you to have dedicated hardware for the competition build, it is a good idea to install hardware (could be borrowed from a sig-rig or backup rig) for the final photos as this gives a better perspective of the case and gets more attention from readers of the log.
