2011 Overclock.net Case Mod Competition -- Discussion Thread -- $2350 in prizes! - Page 2

Hi all,

Glad to see another great OCN contest up and running. Time for another one of my odd-ball contraptions (PCs that don't look like PCs) cooked up like they say here "old school" style from the friendly confines of my kitchen. Nope, haven't had a chance to build another floor over my condo so still no room for floor mounted tools nor a laser cutter, hehe. So that means I still don't qualify for a high falutin' pro yet, just a fancy Intermediate till I get my paws on some decent tools. As most know, a steady eye and hand will only get you so far-and you can see it.

Quite a surprise to see a whole new tier of categories and prizes! Good to see no one listened to my suggestion from last year (kidding) but I will be keeping stats on how many more view, comment, visit, etc on the contest threads vs. last year using my Papang scientific statistical methods fully refined here at OCN.

I will advice my entry as soon as I can get my workshop/kitchen back so I can start working (have a long visit). Meanwhile I will try to encourage more to enter from down under (Mexico guys, not Australia. We are "down under" the USA & Canada, no?), and get cracking on my social networks to get a head start.

All I can suggest is "if you are going to enter, puhleez finish!" Give us some good reads in the logs (a bunch/lot of of logs finished), a bunch of tips (still learning) and help keep the judges from nodding off, hehe.

This is a contest so do your best effort and most of all, it is the YEARLY contest, the mother of all monthly contests. Make your nick proud and shoot for a prize!

I just ordered my below rig.. I plan on modding it and have sent my PM's ... the Silverstone RV02B is about to become my black red and silver monster..

I Just heard from That's like 6 months!!! I was planning on having mine done in 2-3 weeks... Guess it gives me more time to do something crazy

I'm really keen on this, I hope you guys make some cool case's, and I hope mine doesn't turn into a bomb, got alot of ideas going through my head

Edit: Glad their is alot of time for it, cause i got to order in all my crap from oversea's and that just takes ages, and the place i get all my hardware from closed cause of messed up flooding lol.

Thnx Tator & like Rado said there is a whole 6 months to finish your project! A lot of guys get lulled into thinking that its a lot of time but Ash and VeRak beware. A few pointers from last year:

-A lot of the members are going to plan some pretty awesome things even in the Amateur category. Check last years results to get a good idea what is needed to get ahead. There were some pretty advanced Amateurs which were there because it was their first mod but a lot of them did more than assemble a good case and added a cct or two. A lot of their ideas were gleaned from previous mods here and from all around the world and they polished their projects the old fashioned way: do, if not right, redo and if not yet right, yet another redo till it was right. Be strict with yourselves, perfect is what to shoot for (atleast as close as possible).

-A lot of the guys are just down-right ambitious and want to win. The solution? Be as or more than they are, well unless you don't mind being an also-ran. One of the top 3 prizes is what to shoot for....and don't forget to have fun while you're at it!

-Make a plan-any plan of what is to get done. With no plan you might as well be on the 30th of June and running like crazy! Include things to do in Jan. to Apr. which are the usual "sleeper" months. Don't say I didn't warn ya'.

-Be proud of your nick, at least finish. And do it for your home-town. Austin is home to some of the great modders of Texas, for example, don't let them down!

-Have doubts of something in your mod? Post outside of the private area and get a ton of answers, just ask about the specific area of doubt, not the whole project-it is a no-no to expose your project fully outside of your thread.

-Feel overwhelmed and on a funk? Browse the other areas on the site just to distract yourself, there is something for just about everyone. I got a free set of OCN stickers just by participating in another thread. How cool is that?

So much for now, don't say I didn't tell you so, hehe.

I half expected that with everything you said, so thanks for clearing it up, nice of you to state that for us newbies to know.

I'm aiming for a prize, but I'm not expecting to win, mainly I'm just entering because I'm planning to mod a new case up, and this contest just seems to be perfect and more fun with it. Winning some sort of prize is just a awesome bonus to go with pride and countless hours of fun
